FUN WITH THE FAMILY
Summer fun with the family
Summer is finally here! When the sun is smiling and the sky shows its brightest blues, a family getaway is twice as much fun. A family journey of discovery with a picnic is the perfect weekend activity. And even better by bicycle.
The early bird starts the day with muesli
On a beautiful summer Sunday: Seize the day! A light breakfast of muesli and fresh strawberries will give you plenty of energy. This is a good time to prepare some delicious sandwiches for a pleasant picnic. Remember, it’s very important to bring enough drinks to stay hydrated.
Kit and caboodle
A true adventurer needs the proper equipment. The best choice for cycling trips are panniers that simply click on to a carrier and, when hiking, can be strapped over the shoulder with a strap. For expeditions in the surrounding area, take regional trains that quickly transport you and your family to your destination. A great side-effect is that your children will experience the first high points of the day at the train station and during the train trip.
On the journey of discovery
How about a treasure hunt? Special walking and cycling maps will show you the right way to lonely paths, playing fields, idyllic forest clearings and quiet lakeside swimming areas. Having arrived at your destination, it’s time for an exploratory walk. The climbing trees or bales of straw for sitting on will not escape your big and small explorers. Once all these adventures have been had and everyone’s stomach is rumbling, then the picnic is the perfect reward. And – stimulated by all these adventures – snacks that are usually unpopular with children like juicy fruits, sliced vegetables or even a hard-boiled egg will frequently taste delicious to them.
After culinary refreshments, it’s best for all to relax on the picnic blanket. While the children lie on their backs looking for funny animal-shaped clouds, mum and dad can pleasantly relax.
Bathing beauties and pirates
A hot afternoon spent with your children by the side of a lake is as good as it gets. However, don’t forget to have everyone apply sunscreen with a reliable SPF. When you go swimming, it’s best to apply more when you get out of the water. And make sure your children always get enough to drink on hot days to help keep them hydrated.
All’s well that ends well
If you don’t want to go directly home in the evening, why not stay in one of the local pensions. Or spend the night in a tent under a starry sky – an unforgettable experience for the entire family.
