THE RIGHT SUNGLASSES

Midsummer is here! If you are heading away to catch some sunshine you may also be looking for new sunglasses. The selection is enormous, making the right choice difficult. Whether you’re on holiday or at home, there are some important criteria for buying sunglasses.

Perfectly protected peepers
Foremost, sunglasses should protect your eyes from ultra-violet rays. Since 1995, the CE mark has stood for tested quality and compliance with the SPF indicated. Another important aspect when buying shades is the optimum tint of the lenses: on the one hand, they should filter out the light; on the other hand, it is important to still recognise colours, such as traffic lights and signs. Brown and grey lenses are especially suitable, since they distort colours the least. If you frequently ride your bicycle or drive your car, select sunglasses with a narrow frame, since wide frames will limit your peripheral vision.

Large, small, square, round, single colour or colourful…
Oversize models with colourful frames are currently popular. Not only are they fashionable, but the big lenses also protect your eyes from sunlight and UV rays from above and the sides. Whether large or small, your new sunglasses should fit perfectly and enhance your facial features. Select glasses that complement your skin, hair, and style. When buying, keep in mind the following criteria:
- Are the sunglasses mainly for sports, leisure time, special occasions, or will they be worn at work?
- The glasses should cover the eyebrows; ideally, they should follow the contour of the eyebrow.
- The glasses must fit well on the nose and behind the ears.
- The glasses should not be too wide at the temples.
- Glasses in a shape that does not match the shape of the head usually soften features. That means for a square face, round or oval glasses are preferable, and square frames are more flattering for round faces.
