FRESHNESS FOR MEN'S SKIN

Men are lucky. Due to their thicker upper skin layer and the rougher skin structure, men’s skin is better protected against UV rays and environmental impact than women’s skin, and so it does not age as fast. But still – even the most rugged male skin will begin to age one day. Starting in your early thirties, your skin gets drier because the sebaceous glands produce less oil as we get older. What keeps skin young? Here are some tips:

Protection and care in the summer
If you soak up the sun in moderation, you will avoid sunburn. A sunburn signals that the sun’s rays are not appropriate for your skin type. However, even exposure below the sunburn threshold accelerates ageing and wrinkling of the skin. The reason is that UV light damages the elastic and collagen-containing fibres of the connective tissue. Get the best protection against premature ageing of the skin with sunscreen or anti-ageing face creams that were specially formulated for male skin.

Use a sunscreen that offers immediate protection before you go outside, avoid extensive sunbathing, stay out of the midday sun (11am – 3pm) and stay in the shade whenever possible. Hats for men are not only fashionable at the moment, they also protect against the sun. Together with loose-fitting clothes, you can stylishly help prevent sunburn and sun allergies.

What to do in case of burns?
If sunburn does happen despite your precautions, your skin will need plenty of moisture, cooling, and calming. Use an after sun product to help calm and sooth the skin after sun exposure. Treat reddened skin with an after-sun product that contains a high percentage of water and little oil. Take a cool shower (under 25 degrees C) or apply yoghurt or buttermilk compresses. It is very important to drink as much water as possible. Next time you go outside, wear clothes that fully cover the burned areas.
