FAST FOOD

Alternatives to red and white potatoes

Clearly you know what is healthy and what is not: Vegetables and fruit should be right up there on any nutritional plan. When life gets hectic, though, it’s easy to throw good plans to the wind and grab a quick burger instead of preparing a more time-consuming vegetable stir fry. The good news is: it doesn’t matter if you have fast food — as long as it’s only "once in a while" and you decide in favor of at least some kind of healthy fast food. The bad news is: Red and white potatoes are not included in the above. So that you make a better choice next time, here is our mini fast food guide.

Doner kebabs, sushi and other
If you go for a doner kebab or a gyro, then pick one with chicken or turkey because the meat is leaner. Aside from the mostly fresh, crispy vegetables, the best thing about doner kebabs or gyros, incidentally, is the tzaziki or garlic sauce. Among others, it contains Allizin which promotes circulation. Another healthy fast food is sushi. Fish is full of unsaturated fatty acids, proteins, iron and potassium. The classic garnish is ginger which keeps your cholesterol level in check. And if it still has to be a burger, you don’t have to get one with a double helping of meat. The healthy thing about the round sandwich: The pickle slice contains silicic acid for the skin, hair and nails; mustard helps burn fat; and meat contains, among others, vitamin A for eyesight, vitamin B12 to promote cell division, iron to help transport oxygen in the blood and fluorine, which ensures strong bones and good teeth. So what do you crave now?
