General:

What is cellulite/ what does it look like?

  • Cellulite is a skin condition where deposits of fat are stored within the connective tissue of the skin’s layers. As a result, the globules show up as bumps and dimples through the upper layers of the skin and the skin becomes uneven and loses elasticity. Most of the time, these deposits are found on the outer thighs and hips of women – irrespective of weight or dress size.

Can I stop cellulite forming?

  • There is no guaranteed way to stop cellulite forming but you can give your body a little help.
  • Eat a good diet. Drink plenty of water throughout the day and eat regular daily helpings of fresh fruit and fibre. Reduce your intake of coffee, alcohol, high-fat foods and highly processed foods.
  • Take regular exercise. Cardio workouts are particularly effective to reduce fat and weight training is advisable as it increases your strength and helps to firm muscles up. As a result your skin’s appearance is tighter and smoother.
  • Practice body brushing regularly. Skin brushing helps remove dead skin cells, stimulates circulation and boosts your lymphatic flow. This in turn helps out the poor drainage in fat cells. For the best results brush twice a day with a natural body brush using long strokes towards your heart.
  • Massage. It is well known that massaging problem areas, especially the thighs, buttocks and stomach, can help to firm and tone, as massage temporarily increases blood circulation, resulting in the smoothing of skin tissue and the elimination of excess fluid.
  • Quit smoking. Smoking can exacerbate premature aging as it floods your body with toxins. This can have a detrimental effect on the elasticity of your skin, thereby worsening the appearance of cellulite.
  • Regularly apply a specialist anti-cellulite cream. These creams and gels are designed to boost your circulation in problem areas and hydrate your skin. They contain ingredients that help tighten the skin, giving it a smoother, more toned look. If combined with massage, this can improve lymphatic drainage in the area, so the results are even better.

Who can get cellulite?

  • Up to 90% of all cellulite occurs in women irrespective of age. The connective tissue of men and women is structured differently; in men, it is by nature much firmer and more closely interconnected. Women’s connective tissue is far more yielding and flexible to allow it to stretch, for example, during pregnancy. For this reason, women’s fat cells are far more likely to succeed in pushing through to the upper skin layer of bottom and thighs.
