ONE SKIN. ONE PLANET. ONE CARE.

WHAT IS VEGAN SKINCARE?

Vegan skincare or vegan cosmetics refers to skincare products, make-up, and toiletries, such as body and face washes, that do not contain animal-derived ingredients. There are many ingredients, which are made from what animals produce, such as beeswax, honey or milk that are used in skincare products. When sourced responsibly, these ingredients are renewable solutions, which are not only gentle on your skin but also respectful to animals who made them.

At the same time, some ingredients can be made from by-products of livestock farming for food production. In this context, the treatment of animals concerns many consumers. There are also environmental issues, for example, deforestation to clear up more grazing land. With large-scale livestock farming significantly driving climate change, NIVEA takes these concerns seriously.

WHY IS VEGAN SKINCARE IMPORTANT?

In today's world, sustainability and environmental consciousness are at the forefront of many people's minds. As such, there has been a growing emphasis on reducing one's carbon footprint and making environmentally-conscious choices in daily life.
Vegan cosmetics are a great way to support the transfer to more sustainable choices. Vegan ingredients show the contribution of treating our nature better and being conscious of our resources. Made with vegan ingredients these products create an eco-friendly atmosphere that helps to prevent pollution from entering our air, water, and soil.  Additionally, vergan cosmetics support animal welfare, making them a more ethical choice.

As the beauty industry continues to prioritize sustainability and ethical sourcing, using vegan skincare products can be a small but meaningful step towards more conscious consumerism.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF VEGAN SKINCARE?

Vegan skincare has a number of benefits for both your skin and the planet. Here are just a benefits to using vegan skincare products:

1. Vegan skincare products are formulated with a wealth of nourishing plant-based ingredients that provide a range of skincare benefits. These ingredients are rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, which help to restore and maintain healthy, soft skin.

2. In addition to being good for your skin, vegan cosmetics can also be better for the environment. Animal agriculture can have negative impacts on the planet, and choosing vegan skincare helps to reduce the demand for animal-derived ingredients in the beauty industry.

DOES NIVEA OFFER VEGAN SKINCARE?

For many people, animal-derived ingredients do not reflect the values of living in harmony with animals. That is why they look for alternatives, such as plant-based and vegan skincare products.

NIVEA offers a variety of vegan cosmetic products. Our entire Naturally Good product range consists of vegan formulations, 100 percent free of animal-derived ingredients.

What is difference between cruelty free and vegan skincare?

The term ""cruelty-free skincare"" refers to products that have not been tested on animals. As a result, the product, as well as the ingredients in it, have not been tested on animals at any stage of its development. Despite this, cruelty-free products can still contain animal-derived ingredients, such as beeswax or woolwax/lanolin.

By contrast, vegan skincare products do not contain any animal derived ingredients. Therefore, the product does not contain ingredients that are commonly found in non-vegan skincare products, such as beeswax, lanolin, and collagen. It is possible for vegan skincare to be cruelty-free.

And since 2008 it is even forbidden in the EU to perform animal tests with cosmetic products. And additonally even the raw materials for cosmetics are not tested on animal any more since 2013.

Is NIVEA vegan?

While NIVEA is not a fully vegan brand, we strive to minimise the use of animal-derived ingredients in our skincare products. We offer a range of vegan cosmetics that are free of ingredients such as collagen, lanolin, honey, beeswax, and gelatine, and we continue to work towards increasing the proportion of vegan skincare products in our product lines.

How do I know if my skincare product is vegan?

To determine if a skincare product is vegan, you can start by reviewing the ingredient list on the packaging. Be on the lookout for any animal-derived ingredients such as beeswax, lanolin, or collagen. If the product doesn't contain any animal-derived ingredients and is claimed vegan, it's  a vegan product because Nivea also checks not only the source of the raw materials but also the production process to be sure that there is no contact with animal-derived ingredients.,

It's important to note that a product being labelled "natural" or "organic" does not guarantee that it's vegan. Some natural and organic skincare products may still contain animal-derived ingredients.

If you're unsure about a specific ingredient, you can try looking it up online or contacting the manufacturer for more information. Additionally, you can check for vegan certification or labelling on the product or the brand's website to ensure that the product is vegan.
