The basics of male grooming

There’s a huge misconception about grooming, and that’s that men shouldn’t spend too long keeping themselves clean, smart and looking good. But times are changing and there is no shame in saying you have a morning skincare routine or that you spend an hour making sure your hair looks good! We all like to take pride in our appearance, so here are all of the basics to get started in male grooming. From haircare to beard care to skincare - we’ve got you covered.

6 tips for washing your hair

You may think that washing hair is simple and easy. But funnily enough, most get it wrong - by either washing their hair every day or thinking they don’t need to wash it at all! Here are the 6 all-important male grooming tips on how to wash your hair properly:

  1. The first tip to maintain your fresh barnet is to wash your hair 3 times a week at the most. A lot of men tend to wash their hair every day, and if that is you, then stop.
  2. Wash your hair with both shampoo and conditioner. Don’t use too much, just use the right amount of both products so it covers all of your hair.
  3. If you’ve been exercising, such as going to the gym or playing football - it’s best to use a shampoo that’s focused on getting sweat out of your hair. Try using NIVEA MEN Active Clean Shampoo to get clean and fresh smelling hair.
  4. If you struggle with having dandruff, you can use our specially designed Anti-Dandruff Shampoo, and follow our top tips on getting rid of dandruff.
  5. Leave your conditioner in for however long it says on the bottle. It’s so easy to quickly wash it off straight away - but hold your horses! If you want your melon to look marvellous, then keep it on your hair a bit longer.
  6. Exfoliate your scalp every day with just warm water. Just because we’re saying don’t wash your hair every day, doesn’t mean when you shower you need to dodge the water from getting you hair wet. In fact, we’re saying you should wet your hair without using shampoo. Rub your scalp with just your hands, so you’re manually exfoliating it.
