Taking Hair Loss Head-on

Taking Hair Loss Head-on

Unfortunately, thinning hair and baldness is something a good percentage of us gents must face, with some studies showing up to 70% of the male population being effected at some point in their lives. It boggles the mind that scientists can land a space shuttle on a comet hurling through space at 135,000 km/h, but that they cannot cure baldness, but such is life. And while it might feel like the end of the world, we can assure you that it’s not.

Dust In The Wind

Okay, so you’re balding, now what? Step 1, and like many things in life, is acceptance. Whilst it may not have been in your plan to go bald, a hairless head can still look stylish, so heed our advice and we promise you can still be super handsome. Now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s look at some of the options you do have.

Messy Layers

If you’re still in the early stages, you might not need to go super short. This option will work to disguise your thinning and create a bit of a disheveled look. Simply talk to your barber about what you’re working with and guide them to hook you up with some uneven layers up top. When you’re styling, just kind of tussle it around. And try to avoid hair gel, as it clumps hair together and will often make your hair appear thinner than it actually is. Instead, consider fiber pomade with a matte finish.

The Point Of No Return

You may never get there, but if and when you do, our advice is to keep it tight. At this point, sadly, our options aren’t many. You don’t necessarily need to break out the straight razor and remove everything, although if that is your choice then go for it, but the shorter you keep it, the less obvious your thinning is going to be, so keep that in mind.

Take Control

While your hair may be going the way of the Dodo, think of it as an opportunity to focus on the things that you do have control of in life. Maybe stop worrying about growing hair and start growing some sweet muscles? Or better yet, grow a beard or a mustache. We actually have articles about just that here. Improving your hygiene and skin care regimen goes along way to making a good impression, which we’ve also wrote about here. And if all else fails, you can always throw on a hat.
