Why sustainability matters to us at
NIVEA

As a leading brand in the skincare market with over 100 years of expertise, we know that we are facing a major challenge: NIVEA can be found in almost every household, because we offer high-quality skincare products at affordable prices for most people. We are genuinely moved by the trust you place in NIVEA. We want to be worthy of this trust by offering you products that will be developed more sustainably in the future. Because we share your concerns about the environmental problems we are all facing. Some problems are visible, such as the pollution of our planet by plastic waste, and others less so, such as the greenhouse effect, the main cause of man-made climate change.

At NIVEA, we are committed to helping solve these problems, because it matters to us that our beautiful blue planet continues to offer liveable conditions for future generations.

One Skin. One Planet. One Care.

Your skin is at the centre of everything we do at NIVEA. We use our knowledge of skin biology to help you enjoy beautiful skin that is in good condition – natural beauty for all skin types and tones. Your skin brings you into direct contact with your environment: through your sense of touch it creates physical closeness with your loved ones, and you can feel the natural elements – the rain, the fresh wind and the warmth of the sun.

We only have one planet. It makes life possible. We need both a healthy planet and healthy skin. But our planet is becoming unbalanced and losing its beauty because of overconsumption of resources and pollution. The fight against climate change is the biggest environmental challenge for businesses everywhere.

NIVEA refuses to make you choose or compromise. We are just as committed to protecting and caring for the planet as we are to the care of your skin. By changing our products, by reducing their CO₂ footprint and, more generally, by changing the way we produce, we want to help you look after your skin while thinking about the future of the planet. This is a long journey, and we are not at the end yet. But NIVEA is committed to looking beyond your skin.

NIVEA's
sustainability targets

As a leading brand in the skincare market, it’s crucial for us to act more sustainably if we want to reduce our negative impact on the planet. We all need to become more aware of how important it is to protect and care for our beautiful planet. We must make big efforts to reverse the devastating effects of climate change and pollution. Here you can find more information about NIVEA's sustainability targets:

- 50% less use of new fossil-based plastic by 2025 (compared to 2019)

- 30% less waste in our production centres by 2025 (compared to 2018)

More responsible production: NIVEA is committed to treating nature with respect. That’s why we strive to contribute to ecological farming methods, prevent deforestation, and support the communities and regions where our ingredients are grown.

- Ingredients fully renewable from more sustainable sources by 2025
- Supply chains without deforestation for our main raw materials
- 100% of our palm (kernel) oil has come from sustainable sources since the end of 2020
