Summary

Peeling skin is a sign your skin barrier needs a little extra care from you. Whether it's from dryness, sun or over-exfoliation, gentle hydration and protection can help restore smoothness fast. With the right daily routine – from nourishing cleansers to barrier-strengthening creams – your skin can feel soft, comfortable and healthy again.

The
LOWDOWN

Skin peeling happens when old skin cells shed faster than normal, leaving visible flakes or rough patches. It's a natural process – but dryness, sunburn, irritation or certain skin conditions can speed it up. By looking after your skin barrier and keeping your skin hydrated, peeling skin can heal quickly and stay soft.

What causes peeling skin?

Natural renewal: Your skin constantly sheds old cells to make way for new ones.
Dryness: Low humidity, harsh weather and over-cleansing can strip oils, leading to flakiness.
Sunburn: UV damage triggers inflammation, redness and peeling.
Skin conditions: Eczema, psoriasis or dermatitis can disrupt the natural cycle.
Medications or allergies: Some treatments and reactions can cause peeling.

Morning

Expert
Advice

Take lukewarm showers
Hot water strips moisture and makes peeling worse for your skin.

Pat skin dry
Avoid rubbing, as this can further irritate your skin.

Moisturise while wet
Apply moisturiser while your skin is still slightly damp for better absorption.

Go easy
Pause harsh chemical peels or strong actives until your skin has fully recovered.

Avoid

Common mistakes

Over-exfoliating: Too much scrubbing damages your skin barrier.
Skipping moisturiser: Dry skin heals more slowly and flakes more.
Ignoring SPF: Sun exposure prolongs peeling and increases the risk of damage.
Using harsh or fragranced products: These can irritate sensitive skin even further.
