Bald Head? Maintain Your Melon

Bald Head? Maintain Your Melon

You’ve decided that hair isn’t really your thing and have moved to embrace baldness—nice choice. While this low maintenance look does provide the added benefit of a much simpler grooming routine, that doesn’t mean you get to start ignoring your dome altogether.

#1 Get It Tight

First off, walking around with head wounds isn’t a good look, so you’re going to want to take care with the blade. And as far as razors go, stick with what you’re comfortable with on your face—something in the 3 blade variety should do the trick. Hot water softens your hair and makes for a closer shave, and because you’re going to have shaving cream all over the place, the shower is a pretty ideal spot to take care of business. And definitely invest in a shower mirror so you can see what you’re doing. P.S. If you’re having problems with fog, lathering up your mirror with shaving cream and wiping away with a towel should keep you fog free for weeks to come.

#2 Keep It Clean

While the length of your hair may be microscopic these days, you should continue to use shampoo, be it quite a bit less. Oil and dirt will continue to build up on your scalp, so be sure to lather up, keep your melon flake-free and protect your skin from drying out.

#3 Take Care

Moisturizing is a must. Shaving and exposure to the sun can leave your scalp hurting for hydration, so be sure to lather it up every morning, and if you can find a moisturizer with a solid SPF rating, all the better. Your bald scalp is incredibly susceptible to sun damage, so always use a good sunscreen, on your head prior to prolonged exposure.

#4 Cover It Up

Get a hat. Or several. Beyond sun protection, hats can provide some serious style to your ensemble. The style you choose should be dictated by your aesthetic, so find a hat that complements your image and personality.
