Clean, but not necessarily refreshing
I liked the sleek silver metallic colour of the shampoo and the fresh scent. For me though, the shampoo made my hair quite dry, I found I had to use a reasonable amount of conditioner to put some moisture back in. The positives for me were the deep cleansing power of the shampoo and the metallic colour, but a let down for my hair type unfortunately or I would continue to use it.

Nice scent without itching or dandruff
Nivea Men Active Clean Shampoo comes in a 250ml black and grey bottle with moulded side grips and a gratuitous drawing of an icosahedron and spheres to represent "active charcoal" that immediately shouts "made for men!" which I guess is useful in a bathroom full of non-black things but otherwise a bit angry-looking. It doesn't have that annoying fashionable opening with the plastic seal that bursts open and spurts overly large doses at once, but just a small hole in a lid which can be screwed off if you want a bigger amount or to add water to get the last bits out. It doesn't have any particular usage instructions: chuck on, rub and rinse. I've been using it for a couple of weeks now by doing just that in my shampoo rotation, which is currently 2 different brands to prevent a build-up of residue, washing my hair every one or two days. My shower is rubbish so I tend to wash by lying in the bath. My hair is fairly short and frankly thinning so a small blob will do, and I don't feel a need to do a second wash even if I've had a particularly grubby day, which is a plus. A good three minute scrub and rinse under the water gets it out quickly, leaving a nice scent which I genuinely cannot describe but I quite like, though it fades fairly quickly. I've never felt dirty after using it, I haven't experience a greasy build-up, and most importantly my hair doesn't experience itching or dandruff after using it, which is a massive plus. Conditioner can be used afterwards to give a bit of extra volume/sleekness, but again I don't have thick enough hair to make it look particularly lush anyway. Oh, and it's a surprising silver colour, which makes a change from translucent gloop. I'm not sure I have any criticisms. It's nice to have a unique smell, although perhaps something that stuck around for longer would be nice, and I am not sure I've been convinced why charcoal is useful in shampoo: I understand why it's good in fish tank filters, but does it really do the same job? Also I appreciating cosmetics having animal (non-)testing credentials on them, so adding a label to that effect would be encouraging. Anyway, would recommend anyone try it out, and you certainly don't have to be a man.
